BREAST CANCER: RECOVERY AND MAMMOPLASTY
My story with breast cancer satrted shortly after giving birth to my firstborn; I developed fibrocystic breast disease during breastfeeding.
In 2015, at Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea, I got screened for possible cancers and I was diagnosed with cancerous cells in my left mammary gland. I got my diagnosis: early stage breast cancer. The diagnosis came crashing down on me like a ton of bricks. Fate was putting me through the wringer again. After two spinal surgeries, I was stricken by breast cancer on top of that.
When consulting with an oncologist, we discussed the issue that in most cases, if cancer cells are found, the whole breast must be completely removed. But in my case, the affected area was not so large. That meant I would have the tissue with cancer cells removed during surgery and need to have radiation therapy after surgery. Frankly, I was very scared! Because when cancer cells are found somewhere in your body, you are thoroughly and completely examined to see if they are likely to be found in other organs of your body.
Besides, the treatment varies enormously and can be rather complicated, expensive and is exhaustingly long depending on the stage and type of cancer. I had to go through a lot of turmoil and drama. So, if you are now in the same situation as I was then, I can very well understand what you feel because I have been through the whole thing. I had my surgery, and then I had my radiotherapy. Radiotherapy is used to destroy any remaining cancer cells in the areas of the breast where no surgery has been carried out. That was a very tough time as I had to go to the hospital every day, and it took me a lot of patience and effort to get through it all. But I would tell myself, “Well, it's not a big deal, and the main thing is that my surgery was a success. So there is hope for a full recovery!” The most important thing was that I had a timely diagnosis, and the cancer was detected at an earlier stage. So if you are over 40, and you believe that everything is okay with your health, do spare neither trouble nor expense to have a full health checkup. Be sure to have it! And I would advise people who are over 40 years of age to absolutely get cancer screening.
You can feel free to ask me for help, and I will help you get stress-free diagnostics in the best diagnostic center in South Korea.
